Power Generation

Power production is a key element of economic growth and social development, as well as daily life. GLMW products keep engines in natural gas, diesel and biogas power plants running, all over the world – thus contributing to global power production.

Our engine repair kits consist of core engine parts used in annual engine overhauls and significantly increase engine lifespan. We are tracking more than ten thousand engines used in power generation worldwide, and we regularly supply parts and components for the maintenance and servicing of those engines.

Natural Gas

Power plants operate gas engine generators continuously to serve base electrical loads especially in places where there is a lack of centralized power provider while there is availability of natural gas. Base load is the amount of electricity required during a regular day which means that the minimum power demand would always be equal to the base load. Gas engine generators can also be utilized to serve peak electrical loads which means temporary high power demand. In both of these cases, natural gas is the typical fuel used in gas engine generators.

Advantages:

  • Gas engines that run on natural gas are fairly common
  • Natural gas does not require customization within the engine’s fuel system
  • Ease of acquisition for countries where natural is available in excess amounts

Biogas

Biogas is the product of anaerobic decomposition by anaerobic organisms in putrescible organic material. These organisms feed on carbohydrates and fats and produce methane (CH4) and carbon dioxide (CO2). Biogas is made up of these two molecules, and amongst the two methane is the one that provides this composition the fuel property. Based on the organic material absorbed by the anaerobic organisms, the composition of biogas may include different ratios of nitrogen (N), hydrogen (H), sulphur (S) or siloxanes.

Advantages of production and use of biogas:

  • Clean energy source for sustainable power generation
  • Recycling of unwanted wastes
  • Elimination of odor and infestation problems
  • Decrease in carbon emission

Biogas is an alternative and reliable source of energy for sustainable power generation. The gas generators we offer have the capability of running on different types of gas, including biogas. These generators with biogas engines have the capability efficiently generating electricity. The biogas engines are linked to an alternator to maximize the electricity production efficiency.

Applications:

  • Recycling of agricultural animal or plant waste
  • Waste water treatment facilties
  • Landfill gas
  • Food waste

Landfill Gas

The anaerobic decomposition of organic substances in municipal solid waste and commercial & industrial wastes creates landfill gas. Landfills are significant source of renewable energy and they are available in excess worldwide. As the release of landfill gas into the atmosphere is more harmful than even the release of carbon dioxide, disposal of landfill gas in power generation is very advantageous. This way we are able to have a source of renewable fuel while preventing release of a harmful gas into the atmosphere.

Composition of the landfill gas depends on the waste that has been decomposed on a specific landfill site. Landfill production starts after one or two years after the waste has been deposited to the landfill site and continues up to twenty-five years. The amount of gas production can be held high by continuously adding waste to the site along this period.

With high ratio of methane, landfill gas is an effective fuel source for power generation. However it needs to go through a treatment procedure before use in order to minimize the impurities. Additionally, the gas engine generators we offer for use with landfill gas, have the resilience to cope with such impurities within the fuel.

Advantages:

  • Reduced harmful gas release
  • Renewable fuel source
  • Disposal of unwanted waste
  • Profitability

Coal Gas

Coal mine methane is likely to be found around virgin, abandoned or mined coal deposits. The primary component of the coal gas is methane. This gas is produced as a side substance when organic substances are geochemically transformed into coal. Coal gas can be found released in fissures, faucets or as absorbed gas within the inner surface of coal.

The gas released from these coal deposits may be suitable for use in gas engines for power production purposes. Using this coal gas is beneficial as it prevents emissions to the atmosphere while providing a fuel source. Use of coal gas is especially practical for the mining industry as it provides on site power.

Coal gas can be used in several of our gas engine generators as the primary source of fuel. These gas engines are specifically constructed in order to have the capability of processing coal gas.

Advantages:

  • Improved mine safety
  • Reduced harmful gas release
  • On site fuel source
  • High profitability
